Poloxamer 188 is the polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene block polymer that conforms generally to the formula: in which the average values of x, y and z are respectively 75, 30 and 75. In the United States, Poloxamer 188 may be used as an active ingredient in OTC drug products. See Regulatory and Ingredient Use Information, regarding the labeling names for U.S. OTC Drug Ingredients in Volume 1, Introduction, Part A. When used as an active drug ingredient, the established drug name is Poloxamer 188. |

■ U.S. Over-the-Counter (OTC) Drug Ingredients
U.S. OTC drug active ingredients are regulated by the U.S. FDA and require premarket approval for safety and efficacy. Some U.S. OTC drug active ingredients have been reported to have a purely cosmetic purpose in cosmetic formulations, in addition to being safe and effective drug ingredients.
