설명(영) |
Antifoaming Agents or, for short, antifoams, are chemicals which reduce the tendency of finished products to generate foam on shaking or agitation. The ability to control foaming is important during the mixing and filling of products and in those products which should not foam during consumer use. The absence of foam provides the consumer with air-free products and facilitates maintenance of consistent fill weights during bottling. The ability of a material to act as an antifoam depends on its tendency to concentrate on the surface of existing or forming bubbles and to disrupt the continuous films of liquid surrounding them. Frequently, silicones are the preferred antifoaming agents. A wide variety of alcohols and lipids also exhibit similar properties. With the exception of alcohols, antifoams must be effective in small concentrations and are therefore employed in trace amounts. Antifoams may be used in the manufacture of all types of products which contain surfactants. Products in which foaming is undesirable during use include hair-waving preparations, cream rinses, specialty colognes, and mouthwash/gargling preparations. |
