The Benzophenones constitute a group of aromatic Ketones, all of which contain the diphenylketone structural element: The remaining ring substituents, normally -OH, -OCH3, and -SO3H groupings, improve the solubility of these ketones and alter their ability to absorb ultraviolet light. These compounds are used in sunscreens and photoprotective preparations.
