Fragrance is a term for ingredient labeling used to identify that a product contains a material or a combination of materials normally added to a cosmetic to produce or to mask a particular odor. The term Fragrance may be used instead of listing the individual components of the fragrance in accordance with U.S. 21 CFR 701.3(a). The labeling name in the EU will be Parfum under the 6th Amendment to the EC Cosmetics Directive. |

■ Fragrance/Parfum
The terms Fragrance and Parfum are used as INCI labeling names in the United States and the EU, respectively. These names are used to identify that a product contains a material or combination of materials to produce or to mask a particular odor.
As this edition of the Dictionary goes to press, a proposed amendment to the EU Cosmetics Directive is being considered which would require the labeling of 26 fragrance ingredients on package labels using INCI nomenclature. Users of the Dictionary should contact CTFA or Colipa for the most recent information regarding this update.
